Our sexual behaviour varies at different times in our lives. Sex guru Tracey Cox in her bestselling book, ‘Sextasy’ reveals the sexual urges and traits of lovers according to their age…
20-something
Most guys just can’t stop dreaming about sex every couple of hours. At this age, girls are usually rebellious in their sexual imaginations. They share same-sex fantasies or want to try out bi-sexuality. A 2006 study of nearly 2000 people discovered that 76 per cent of women who slept with women reached orgasm (for women with men, the figure stands at 50 per cent).
The 20s are the time when young boys and girls are most experimental in their sexual positions. One in 10 people claims Tracey Cox have had a threesome in their early twenties.
Also, people in this age group have most likely visited a strip joint or a lapdancing club – with their friends or their better half.
30 something
The 30s are a time to experiment, almost all 30-somethings claim to have had sex outdoors. Unlike the teens when making out was the most common form of sexual experimentation, most 30 somethings prefer having sex somewhere semi-public like the beach, in the garden or on a park bench in the darkness. There’s something wildly erotic about these sexapades! Also, high on the 30 something popularity chart are having sex in the shower or in the bath tub.
Kinky pleasures also rate high as most 30 plus couples claim to be giving in to their fantasies of bondage, blindfolds and spanking on a weekend of debauchery.
This is also the time when women are most likely to befriend gay male pals. Straight women love gay men; gay men love straight women. Swedish research is confirming just why the two groups get along so famously – they both have symmetrical brains. Straight men and lesbians have asymmetrical brain hemispheres.
The 30s also mark the arrival of children in a married couple’s life, so the sex drive naturally dwindles. But, Cox points out that during pregnancy, couples have sex four to five times a month. Most put the brakes on their sex lives for about seven weeks after delivery, but four months later are back to four or five times of sex a month. Cox says six months after delivery, the average couple goes back to having sex three to five times a month. But incase you don’t fit the bill, remember getting disheartened ain’t gonna help. Remember it’s just a temporary period, so continue touching and cuddling and if your baby robs you of chances to have sex, indulge in quickies.
Most women says Cox in her book experience higher orgasm rates. Ninety per cent of women past 30 regularly experience orgasm, compared to just 23 per cent of younger women.
40 something
Men in their 40s are more likely to experience erection problems. Also, this is the age when maximum number of men tend to be unfaithful. Also, men are more compelled in their 40s to watch more porn or indulge in sex chats. Women on the other hand get sexually very demanding, often being attracted to younger men.
If you thought the 40s were about low libido, think again, while 40-somethings maybe having less sex than ever, the thrust has shifted from how many times in a week to an emphasis on better quality. You are more sure of your sexual needs in this age group and thus more likely to insist on passion play as opposed to a mere making out session.

We will find out the truth and will come back to you very soon. Till then please be patient,” he said in a video clip. The CD of him speaking before a camera at an undisclosed location was sent through his lawyer and circulated to select media.

I am in the process of gathering information regarding charges and allegations levelled against me said Nithyananda. The contents of his speech were telecast by a private Tamil Satellite Channel. His statement comes a day after his former disciple Nithya Dharmananda alias K Lenin said he had shot the video purportedly showing Nityananda in a compromising position with an actress which was later telecast on TV channels.

Based on the disciple’s complaint, police registered cases against Nityananda under various sections of the IPC including cheating, criminal intimidation and rape. Meanwhile Chennai Police Commissioner T Rajendran said special teams had been formed to trace Nityananda.

teenpregnancyTeen pregnancies in Chennai are not uncommon and they are on the rise in the city, especially among the affluent and lower income groups. And if at all the number of schoolgirls undergoing abortions at hospitals has gone down, it is because of morning-after pills being available over the counter in the city’s pharmacies.

Fifteen-year-old Deepa (name changed) was brought to an infertility clinic by her parents for bouts of unexplained bleeding every 10 days. When the doctor probed deeper into the case, she found that the teenager, who indulged in sex often with her boyfriend, had taken an overdose of oral contraceptive pills. “Emergency pills are meant precisely for that – emergencies. How can such a situation crop up several times a month?” quips well-known gynaecologist, Dr Kamala Selvaraj.

Starting from Rs 70 to Rs 400, a range of such pills is available in drug stores across the city. While one pill is to be taken within 72 hours of sexual intercourse, the second pill should be popped in 12 hours later. Even as young girls studiously read up on the contraceptive method online, and even ring up private hospitals to clear their doubts about the dosage, there are misconceptions about the usage.

“Many girls still do not know how to take them. They either overdose on the first pill, or forget to take the second one in time,” says Dr Jeyarani Kamaraj, a gynaecologist. Prolonged ‘abuse’ of the hormone-based pills can lead to multiple complications, including irregular menstrual cycles, hypertension and even diabetes, explains Dr Selvaraj. “The medication prevents implantation of the fertilised egg in the uterus, and should ideally be taken only under the instructions of a doctor,” she says.

The situation is dicey for doctors in government hospitals as increasing awareness of the pills among rural and poor girls may give an impression of encouraging sex among the youngsters, says a government doctor. Abortion clinics in the city are still frequented by teenagers who face ‘contraceptive failure’. “We even get schoolgirls who walk in with their boyfriends for support though they tell us that it is their brother or relative. We don’t ask questions,” says a nurse at one such clinic in Vadapalani.

ram-gopal-varmaRam Gopal Varma known as RGV in Bollywood circles is one of the most popular directors in the country. The scary director that he is RGV is making his forthcoming horror film Phoonk 2, a sequel to his 2008 film Phoonk, simultaneously in three languages.

The film is called Phoonk 2 in Hindi, Aahawam in Telugu, and in Tamil it is interestingly titled Bommai 2 in Tamil. The movie is released on April 9. Varma is planning to release it in a large number of screens, as Phoonk was a big hit.

So we will do a contest under some scientific observation.”

“Whoever says he accepts the challenge and thinks he won’t be scared while watching the film will be shown Phoonk 2 in a theatre alone will be attached to an ECG machine to monitor his heartbeat and the machine will be connected to a screen outside the hall. If his heart beat stays normal, he will win Rs. 500,000,” the director said.

busstop2

Bus shelters in the city are in a very poor condition. Even if there is a bus shelter those very poorly maintained without any proper roofing. Now thanks to the Chennai Corporation, hereafter commuters will have a smile on their face as the Chennai Corporation approved the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s revised design for the construction of modern bus shelters at 500 places across the city. This also facilitates the transport agency to get no objection certificate and from the district collector ate for display of advertisements.

Facilities like clocks, coin-vending machines, fans, tiltable dustbins and telephones are part of new the modern bus shelters. Last September the civic body had objected the modernization, since it did not have the clearance from the corporation or the district collectorate. MTC had allowed contractors to display advertisements on its panels and build structures which could obstruct pedestrian movement.

“All the shelters should be uniformly built and aesthetically done. The corporation had earlier told MTC to adhere to its standards of shelters and built a pilot project on Durgabai Deshmukh Road. With the council giving its clearance, the MTC will implement the uniform designs,” said Mayor M Subramanian. Advertisements will be allowed on 180 sq ft of the shelter on corporation roads and 205 sq ft on highways-maintained roads.

Earlier, responding to opposition leader Saidai P Ravi who came down heavily on the poor performance of Neel Metal Fanalca, the private conservancy agency, the mayor said the civic administration would even resort to cancel the contract with the agency in one of the zones. “After taking legal recourse and availing of necessary men and material, we will end the contract,” he said.

The council meeting on Friday was special by presence of government officials in the rank of superintending engineers from various service agencies which have been under fire for not taking public complaints seriously.

Based on a communiqué from the corporation’s council department, representatives from PWD, Slum Clearance Board, Metrowater, TNEB and BSNL participated in Friday’s meeting. The state highways and fire and rescue services will also send representatives in the next sessions. “The initiative would help councillors to air grievances and get the desired results,” the Mayor said. At least 70% of the business transaction in the council is always related to other agencies. Agencies.

The much expected second airport planned at Sri Perumbudur may not take off as both the Centre and the state governments are preparing to shelve the project.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has undertaken a techno-economic feasibility study of the project. A senior official in the Union civil aviation ministry said that the government is convinced that there is no urgent need for a second airport in the city, as the existing airport at Meenambakkam is being expanded.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is spending Rs 3,800 Crore on the expansion works including construction of a new terminal and laying of a secondary runway, which are expected to be completed by April 2011. Confirming the development, sources in the state government pointed out that many major cities across the world were operating with one airport and the present air traffic in the city could not justify a second airport.

As per the condition for setting up the second airport, the state government has to acquire about 5,000 acres of land and hand it over to the AAI free of cost. “It may entail expenditure between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000 Crore which the state government may not be ready to shell out,” the sources added. The officials also argued that if private operators had to be brought in, the existing airport should be closed down as in the case of Bangalore and Hyderabad. Having spent more than Rs 3,000 Crore on the expansion works of the present airport, it would not be a prudent move to close it down, they said.

350 aircraft movements a day are being handled at the present Airport, which will go up to 450 a day once the expansion works are completed. “This should be sufficient to handle the growing demands for up to 2015,” said an AAI official. Keeping two airports operational is very difficult, given the traffic projections; and the additional expenditure on a mass rapid rail link between the two airports could not be justified, the officials added.

Due to close proximity of the two airports the project has gone against the proposed airport at Sri Perumbudur. While internationally accepted norms say that there should be a minimum distance of 150 nautical miles between two airports, the two in Chennai are hardly 20 nautical miles apart.

gauthamharris

The past week gave us a jolt. When Harris Jayaraj officially announced that he was parting ways with Gautham Menon, it signaled the end of one of the most successful and popular musical partnerships of recent years. The levels of consistency that Gautham and Harris have been able to maintain over nearly 7 years and 5 movies is something that could match the legendary Bharathiraja-Ilaiyaraja combination, maybe even surpass it. Whenever this director-composer duo came together they produced nothing less than chartbusters. The middling hummable tunes was not their cup of tea, they produced music of the highest quality. While it will only be appropriate to give the bulk of the credit for all those beautiful songs from Minnale to Vaaranum Aayiram to Harris Jeyaraj, it cannot be denied that Gautham seemd to be an active partner in the creative process. Yes, Harris has been able to produce hits and superhits under other directors, but his best always seemed to come out in a Gautham film, just like Rahman pulls out something special from his hat for Shankar or Mani Ratnam.

So, it has been bluntly stated that Harris won’t be working with Gautham again. How does that augur for Tamil cinema music? Well, the first impression is one of huge disappointment. But perhaps we need to take different perspectives. The end of the Gautham-Harris combine does not only mean that Gautham and Harris

will not be teaming up again, it also means that we will be seeing new teams coming into being. For all his career Gautham has gone to Harris for music, the only exception being Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam which is still a few months away from hitting the stands. Harris has also reserved his best for Gautham. We never knew whether Gautham can create the same magic with other composers or whether Harris can be as potent under another director. Now, we will know.

There is an old bit of wisdom that says, ‘you can have too much of a good thing’. Yes, when we get into comfort zones for long period of times there is a tendency for complacency to take over. Maybe, the Gautham-Harris team has been in the comfort zone for quite some time now and this break-up of sorts has come just at the right time to stem the onset of any complacency which has an uncanny knack of infecting even the most dynamic and creative of minds. Maybe, what happened is in the best interests of both Harris and Gautham who can now explore other sides of themselves and who knows, they might hit upon something wonderful. Just like Kamal found an able ally in Rahman after years of association with Ilaiyaraja or how M.S. Vishwanathan still produced great music even after his association with Ramamurthy came to an end.

Now that we have tried to look at this unfortunate incident in the most positive and optimistic way possible, let us allow ourselves a bit of lamentation, what happened is worth a bit of mourning. Sometime in 1998-99, we had a similar shock when Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi said that they would not play professional tennis together any longer. After a handful of grand slam titles, this was a rude shock for all sports lovers. They went their ways, explored new possibilities, partners and did quite well, winning a few more grand slams in the process. But, the thrill that came from watching them do it together was never relived. One wonders whether the Harris-Gautham split will do something similar. No doubt, Harris will continue to give us good songs and Gautham will find another composer who can find his wavelength, but will the same magic be recaptured?

One of the best things about Harris-Gautham music was the soothing melody which was made even more wonderful by the lyrics. Many might have not noticed, but songs from Minnale, Kakka Kakka, Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu all the way to Vaaranum Aayiram have had songs with some of the best lines in recent years. Majority of them were written by Thamarai. The Gautham-Harris team seemed particular on the use of some literally pleasing lines. ‘Ennai Konjam Maatri’, ‘Uyirin Uyire’, ‘Vaseegara’, ‘Paartha Mudhal Naale’, ‘Veranna Vendum’, ‘Oru Ooril’ and a few more songs have portions that are poetic in spite of the constraints of rhythm and tune. One wonders whether all this can come together for some other team. Let’s hope so. Or even better, let’s hope that this break up is just temporary and that differences are not irreconcilable.
